A detailed analysis of Aristotle's Physics II.5 196b10-197a8. Three main points of the passage are: 1. Chance events are among events that happen neither always nor for the most part in the same way. 2. They differ from other such events in the fact that they are for the sake of something. 3. They come about accidentally in the sense that one conjoining element in chance conjunctions accidentally come to be for the sake of the other.
