Sažetak
Busha is one of the autochthonous Croatian cattle breeds. It belongs to a group of primitive short horned cattle (Bos brachyceros europeus). Busha formed the basis of cattle production in Croatia during past centuries, while today it is almost extinct. The awareness of decrease of the genetic diversity on the national and global level stimulated the question of Busha preservation. Having visited the areas where it has been traditionally bred, it has been realised that only a few dozens of Busha remained. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) was used for the purpose of phylogenetic research of the remaining population. Eight sequences of mtDNA D-loop region of Busha have been researched out of the total of 44 individuals which are the subject of the whole analysis. A proximal part of mtDNA D-loop regions (from 15900 to 16225 nt) has been sequenced. By analysis of sequenced regions, ten polymorphic sites have been noticed. The transition has been noticed on eight positions, while transfersion occurred on two positions. Transition T→ C makes 75% of the total transitions. In the individual comparison of sequences, the number of polymorphic sites was between 1 to 5. The variety of researched sequences was between 0.31% and 1.53% and the genetic distance level from 0.0062 to 0.0156.
