Sažetak
Substantial progress, including investigations in Center for Marine Research, has been made in the last 25 years to evaluate the impact of physical and chemical genotoxins in marine organisms, especially invertebrates. This overview (a) summarizes the major high lights in this stimulating area of research (b) compares developments in this field with the development in mammalian genotoxicological studies, where appropriate, (c) presents results of 20 different articles of the members of Laboratory of Marine Molecular Toxicology (d) discusses the use of DNA damage as a signal of presence and effects of genotoxins in the marine environment and (e) hypothesizes on future direction of research in this exciting field.
