Sažetak
Aluminium foams have specific properties like: very low density, good impact energy absorption and damping, sound absorption, high stiffness to weight ratio, thermal insulation (closed cells), very good corrosion resistance. Also, like a part of sandwich construction the metal foams are very suitable for protecting the humans and goods in a situation of ballistic attacks. In this work the possibilities of improving wear resistance, as an additional property of the metal foams, have been investigated. After foaming of powder metallurgy precursor, the surface of aluminium foam plate with skin was thermal sprayed. A technology for producing different oxide and carbide surface layers, as well as the micro structural characteristics of surface and cross section are described. The resulted structures indicate good potential for application of surface modified foam parts in the situations where wear resistance could be combined with the other advanced properties of metal foams.
