Sažetak
MIneral composition of the shells of EWuropean flat oysters (Ostrea edulis Linnaeus), Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis galloprovincialis Lamarck and Mytilus galloprovincialis radiatus Philippi), horse mussel (Modiolus barbatus Linnaeus), date shell (Lithophaga lithophaga Linnaeus), and great scallop )Pecten jacobaeus Linnaeus), was analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction. Adult shells are composed of calcite and aragonite in different fractions, in dependence of bivalve molluscs genus and/or species. The calcite fraction varied from 20 to almost 100 %, and the aragonite fraction was found from traces up to 80 %.
