Sažetak
Peptidoglycan monomer (PGM) is the disaccharide-pentapeptide originating from Brevibacterium divaricatum. It was obtained by lysozyme digestion of uncrosslinked peptidoglycan chains isolated from the culture fluid of penicillin treated bacteria. PGM preparation contains up to 10% of anhydromuramyl analogue. PGM is water soluble, non-pyrogenic and non-toxic. It is excreted rapidly in urine after i.v. administration, partly as a pentapeptide, resulting from the action of N-acetylmuramyl-L-alanine amidase present in blood. Biological activities of PGM exhibited in various experimental models include: stimulation of immune response, antitumor and antimetastatic activity, immunorestorative activity and inhibition of drug metabolizing enzymes in liver.
