Sažetak
The selective pivaloylation of D-glucopyranose proceeds by two pathways after initial 6-pivaloylation, namely successive esterification of (a) positions 1, 3, 4 and 2 (major pathway) and (b)positions 2, 1, 4 and 3 (minor pathway). Numerous di- and tetra-pivalates have been prepared and characterized. On treatment of 2, 6-dipivalate with rabbit serum or partially purified esterase II, Piv-O-6 was hydrolyzed selectively, whereas the 1, 6-dipivalate underwent partial 1, 2 acyl migration and enzymic de-esterification.
