Sažetak
One of the primary issues in aircraft safety is the quality of speech communication between the crew inside the cockpit. Although improved by the use of various types of headsets, speech intelligibility is still strongly influenced by high levels of interior noise. The goal of this investigation was to evaluate the quality of straight voice communication inside the cockpit of Pilatus PC-9 aircraft, which seems to be the only way of exchanging flight information between the crew in case of possible intercom's malfunction. Several measurements and post-process analysis of aircraft cabin noise were made on the ground and during typical training flights to obtain necessary data for Speech Interference Level (SIL) and Speech Intelligibility Index (SII) calculations. The results, some of which are presented in this paper, have shown that noise levels are generally beyond the safety recommendations, which makes direct voice communication between the crew practically impossible without helmets with built-in intercoms.
