Sažetak
Paper treats hydrology aspects of the Almyros brackish karst spring (Island of Crete, Greece). Sea water intrusion into the spring aquifer appears during low water period and lasts in average ten months in the year. The Almyros spring has been investigated by many authors due to its great importance for the island of Crete and town of Heraklio which is situated in the vicinity of the spring and has growing population and water demands especially in the summer tourist season when salinity of the spring is highest. In spite of many investigations and undertaking measures the spring water desalinization has not been solved in practice. Paper gives information of basic geological, hydrogeological and hydrological characteristic of the spring and catchment area as well as short overview of previous investigations. Autocorrelation and crosscorrelation analysis of available hydrological time series and time series of chloride concentration has been done. Obtained results confirmed some previous conclusions, and gave new contributions to the understanding of spring functioning.
