Sažetak
A typical Mediterranean town develops as a rule around its historical nucleus which may be longitudinally set parallel to the coastline or concentrated in the area of a minor or major peninsula or located in a bay. These towns are usually characterized by heavy build-up in the area of a wider town centre, insufficient traffic network and insufficient number of parking spaces, and finally a conflict between the urban structure and the terminals which aspire at tending to occupy the same space. In individual cases of towns one may speak also about the problem of pedestrian inaccessibility of the coastal area where the narrow coastal part of the town is used by motor traffic. The location of the sea passenger terminal within the town centre zone under the described conditions represents therefore a problem regarding its interaction with the surface transport and regarding the functioning of the city traffic in general. The location of the sea passenger terminal needs to be carefully analyzed from this aspect, at the same time analyzing the conditions of the aquatorium which is to accommodate the expected sea traffic. The work will analyze the potential criteria that need to be respected in selecting the location of the sea terminal regarding its functioning in relation to the town and urban traffic: - road access to the terminal – link to the main routes, i.e. with the European traffic corridors ; - functioning of the access roads regarding the increase in the traffic volume ; - space potentials for the accommodation of passenger cars waiting to board ; - space potentials for the accommodation of heavy vehicles waiting to board ; - space potentials for the accommodation of buses/coaches waiting to board ; - traffic potentials to establish links with the railway, bus and, as necessary, air transport ; - links to scheduled public urban transit. Apart from the above mentioned, it is necessary to consider also from the traffic aspect the pedestrian accessibility of the terminal, and from the urban and architectural aspect the environmental characteristics of the terminal location within the urban structure, as well as the location of the urban facilities that may be of interest to the tourists / travellers. The objective of the work is to define the possible criteria of assessing the location of the passenger sea terminal and to develop the assessment method for each of the criteria.
