Sažetak
To investigate the changes in serum DPP IV activity (widely distributed multifunctional plasma membrane glycoprotein) in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). Study was performed on 38 patients with CD (mean age +/- SD: 42.7 +/- 14.4 ; 19 males, 19 females), and 65 healthy donors (mean age +/- SD: 41.6 +/- 12.1 ; 32 males, 33 females). Serum DPP IV activities were measured by detection of free 4-nitroaniline in an assay mixture spectrophotometrically. Average serum DPP IV activities in patients with CD (36.8 +/- 1.5 μ mol min-1 dm-3) were statistically signifi cantly decreased compared to healthy controls (48.4 +/-1.1 μ mol min-1 dm-3) (p<0.001). The DPP IV activity correlated inversely with the Crohn's Disease Activity Score (CDAI), r=-0.2863, p=0.024. Furthermore, a statistically signifi cant difference was found in the serum DPP IV activity between the groups of patients having the CDAI score less than 150 and more than 250 (p=0.023). CONCLUSIONS: Soluble DPP IV in serum seems to be involved in the pathophysiology of CD and appears to be useful as an available, non-invasive marker in the diagnosis of the disease activity.
