Sažetak
The aim of the study was to assess the effects of liquid manure from a swine farm on the hygienic quality and health safety of water from three sources, i.e. natural spring, well, and artesian well. The swine farm is located in west Slavonia, Croatia, producing about 25, 000 fattened hogs per year. Upon processing through a hose system, liquid manure is discharged into lagoons, then being dispersed over the surrounding fields sown with cereals. Analysis of water samples from the three sources showed that liquid manure used for field fertilization was not the source of water pollution with nitric compounds. The unfavorable microbiologic water findings may have been due to liquid manure fertilization as well as to some other causes. It is concluded that appropriate use of liquid manure in soil fertilization according to agrotechnical terms has no impact on the drinking water safety.
