Sažetak
The interpretations of tectonic relations in the External Dinarides coastal area maximally reach as far as 5,000 m in depth. On the other side, the results of the geophysical (mostly seismic) explorations, depict the sedimentary complex basement at depth even exceeding 17 km. The scarce interpretations of tectonic relations with such a depth range allow some new contributions to be made.
In this paper, the genesis of the tangential folded and faulted tectonic units (structures) of both the Dinaric strike (NW-SE) and of the Hvar island or similar strike (W-E) is discussed, giving a special attention to their interrelations within the aforementioned circumstances. The interpretation starts from the surface exposures and reaches the maximal geophysically recorded depths, and also the geologically inferred depths.
Certain structural complexes that are positioned at depths exceeding the reach of the karstification process are regarded to be the tectonically predisposed petroleum potential zones.
