Sažetak
One of the possible ways of increasing sustainability of development in the field of power production is by use of combined heat and power (CHP) sources. CHP production, also known as co-generation, increases the efficiency of the conversion process representing a reliable and economic mean of supplying thermal and electrical energy to the industry and households. Combined heat and power production offers lower fuel consumption and reduced flue gas emissions compared with separate generation of heat and power. Due to strengthened legislation considering pollutant emission from the power plants in recent years, CHP production systems have now become an important power source. Though, it is questionable how co-generation will survive with the onset of the liberalisation of electricity markets, as stipulated in the EC Electricity Directive, and the resulting fall of electricity prices.
