Sažetak
The Author’ s standpoint is in that the constant of globalisation processes through history represents an “ economy model” of Western civilisation. In the past, such an economy model has been a basis of the emerging “ capitalist era” , while nowadays it represents a predominant form of an organisation of the human community. According to this, the globalisation process has started a few centuries ago ; the characteristic of the twentieth century (in particular, its second half) is its tremendous boost. It appears that such an accelerated pace of globalisation – leaving aside, for a moment, its positive effects on development of mankind in general – puts under question many of in this moment existing “ values of civilisation” . Although the “ traditional” , rigid form of nationhood of states is transforming itself into a new, yet not fully defined, form of nationhood, this process accelerated in these times to a such an extent, that one can justly raise the question as to the final limits such process is able to go to. Are the “ State-Nations” disappearing ; is it and to what extent the “ world globalisation” conflicting the basic principles of democracy and freedom? How much can the deep gap between “ developed” and “ underdeveloped” countries be an evidence that the basic mechanism of globalisation process is discriminatory to “ small” and “ underdeveloped” ? What is with countries’ “ economic autonomy” which is, in a still dispersed World, of a crucial importance for freedom and existence of their citizens? In the context of these questions, the Author reviews in particular the problems of countries within the so- called “ Western Balkans” region.
