Sažetak
The reaction kinetics and the rheology of short fiber composites based on unsaturated polyester matrices have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and parallel plates and capillary rheometry, as a function of different processing variables: time, temperature and shear rate. The effects of the filler (calcium carbonate) and the reinforcement (glass fibres) on the curing kinetics and the rheology of unsaturated polyester resins have been analyzed. The experimental results have been used to develop an empirical kinetic model accounting for diffusion control effects, and a correlation between viscosity, extent of reaction, temperature and shear rate. The complete chemorheological model is verified through rheological tests performed at different heating rates and angular frequencies. Excellent agreement between model predictions and experimental results has been obtained.
