Sažetak
During IOM, a lot electromedical equipment needs to be used simultaneously and can interact with each other. Equipment malfunction could be very dangerous and sometimes even lethal to the patient. In order to prevent such catastrophic events, minor regulations have been established concerning the safety of this equipment regarding their manufacturing and appropriate usage. These regulations include proper installation of equipment in the operating room, equipment construction, power supply, and appropriate way of testing equipment performance and safety. Special regulations have been established considering the manufacturing of this equipment and their construction safety, as well as instructions for safe usage of this equipment. Other regulations require appropriate maintance of equipment and regular testing of their safety. International standards regulate ways of testing safety of this equipment, but unfortunately we find many substandard examples. The purpose of this presentation is to warn about the dangers of equipment malfunction, provide ways for testing equipment, and give examples where equipment malfunction produced skin burns.
