Sažetak
Recent discovery of ferroelectric properties in dimeric compounds with odd number of methylene groups in the flexible alkylene spacer increased interest in this class of compounds. Previously we reported on dimeric molecules based on alkoxybenzoyl-oxyphenyl groups connected to the spacer unit by imine functions. Those molecules showed strong effect of the alkylene spacer parity and terminal chain length on the liquid- crystalline properties. Continuing our research we prepared two new series of dimeric molecules (I, II) based on salicylaldimine moiety. These molecules possess hydroxy function which hydrogen bonds into the imine nitrogen to give six-membered ring structure which rigidifies the molecule and has an impact on mesogenic properties. According to the textures all the compounds display mesogenic properties. Generally, compounds with even number of carbon atoms in the spacer behave like rods while compounds with odd number show the properties characteristic for bent shape molecules.
