Sažetak
It was 1956 when our greatest bridge designer prof. Tonković designed the cable-stayed bridge as a solution for the competition of Danube crossing in Novi Sad (Serbia) (Radić 2003). Almost half a century later, in 2002, the first cable-stayed bridge in Croatia, Dubrovnik bridge, was completed. During that time the cable-stayed bridges were often submitted for competitions but never chosen for construction. The most notable examples are the mainland-island of Krk Bridge and the Homeland Bridge in Zagreb (Marić 1998). Cable-stayed bridges may be utilised for fixed links to the Adriatic islands. One of the conceptual designs for the new mainland – island of Pasman Bridge comprised the cable-stayed bridge. Cable stayed bridges for small spans are very often utilised as pedestrian bridges and rarely as motorway overpasses. Standard overpasses on Croatian motorways are all similar and aesthetically unpleasing, utilising the pier in the median strip which obstructs the view of the motorway users. Therefore we developed some new structural types of overpasses including a cable stayed bridge.
