Sažetak
This recent basic research study used an experimental animal model protocol to single out specific biomarkers of the effect of non-ionising, non-thermal irradiation ( 2450 MHz microwave radiation and 5 -15 mW / cm2 dosage ) on bone marrow, peripheral blood, and bronchoalveolar free cell populations. The control group of Wistar rats consisted of 20 animals. The matched experimental group of animals, were irradiated for 2h a day, 5 days a week,
and subsequently sacrificed on the 1st, 8th, 16th, and 30th day of experiment. Each animal used in the study was previously instilled with biologically inert microspheres in order to see the influence of irradiation on lung retention kinetics of given material. The cell response to chosen electromagnetic irradiation was followed quantitatively and qualitatively using the standard laboratory methods. So far, the results of peripheral blood cell
response suggested a decreasing tendency in total leukocyte count
and in relative lymphocyte count in the treated animal group, a slight
increase in granulocyte count, and in the absolute count of peripheral
blood erythrocytes in comparison with control animals. The results of
this auxiliary basic research study, aimed at revealing the extent and the
kind of electromagnetic irradiation impact on the chosen animal model under
particular experimental conditions, will provide a basis for further experimental research.
