Sažetak
U svojim djelima Frane je Petrić bio zaokupljen brojnim temama i pitanjima koja su obuhvaćala područja različitih znanosti i umijeća. Zbog toga ga i smatramo renesansnim polihistorom. Petrićev interes za filozofiju seže i u područje etike. Već u Sretnom gradu, svom prvom spisu, iznio je poimanje vrline, ljudske sreće, rata i mira, oslonivši se na Aristotela: sreća i blaženstvo zajednice, a time sreća i blaženstvo svakog građanina, sastoje se u djelovanju vrline. I sljedeći njegov mladenački spis Dijalog o časti etičkog je karaktera. Taj dijalog piše ponukan tada aktualnim dvobojima studenata Padovanskog sveučilišta. U njemu odredbe koje počivaju na Aristotelovom i, kako sâm kaže, modernom poimanju časti Petrić smatra netočnima te nudi vlastitu odredbu: &raquo ; Čast je dobar pojam u duhu ljudi nastao od spoznaje dobrih djela drugih ljudi.&laquo ; Etičkim temama Petrić se bavi i onda dok piše Deset dijaloga o povijesti. Primjerice, u dijalogu Il Donato ističe da je u povijesti važno uočiti sve što nam koristi za sreću i mir u ljudskoj zajednici, a iznosi i nauk o stanjima u državi: miru, pobuni i ratu. Napokon temama praktične filozofije Petrić je posvetio i veći dio sedme knjige trećeg sveska Peripatetičkih rasprava. Kao primjer svakako treba istaknuti njegov stav o jednakosti, odnosno istovrsnosti vrlina u muškarca i žene. Promišljanjima o vrlini, ljudskoj sreći, ratu, miru, časti, pa i odnosu između spolova, Petrić nam se predstavlja kao zagovornik pravednosti, čestitosti, razboritosti i mudrosti, dakle kao etičar.

In his work, Frane Petrić was occupied with numerous topics and questions, which involved the fields of various sciences, arts and skills. This is why we consider him a renaissance poly-historian. Petrić's interest in philosophy also extended to the field of ethics. Already in his first work, The Happy Town, falling back upon Aristotle he expounded his conception of virtute, human happiness, war and peace: the happiness and beatitude of a community, and with in the happiness and beatitude of every citizen, consist of the action of virtue. The nature of his following youthful work, A Dialogue on Honour, is also ethical. He wrote this Dialogue compelled by the then popular duels amongst the students of the University of Padua. In it, Petrić holds the definitions of honour that rest on Aristotle's and the modern conception of honour incorrect, and offers his own definition: » ; Honour is a good concept that has arisen in the spirit of people through their understanding the good deeds of other people.« ; Petrić discusses ethical issuens even in his Ten Dialoges on History. For example, in his dialogue Il Donato Petrić emphasises that it is important to register everything in history that could bring happiness and peace to the community of people. Moreover, he expounds his thesis on the conditions in a state: peace, rebellion and war. Petrić finally dedicated most of the seventh book of the third volume of his Peripatetic Discussions to the issues of practical philosophy. His view on equality, i.e. the identity of virtues in men and women, should particularly be emphasised. Petrić's reflections on virtue, human happiness, war, peace, honour, as well as on the relation between the sexes, make him an advocator of justice, honesty, prudence and wisdom, thus an ethicist.
