Given the importance of every swimming technique and a lot of other parameters that describe the 200m individual medley race, a share of every component in the final result will be presented using the regression coefficients. The aim of this paper is to acquire relevant information for detection and comparison of the parameters aiming to make, control and correct the training operators. Methods Pearson’s correlation coefficients of the predictive and criterion variables have been calculated. Using the linear regression analysis the influence ((-ponder) of time-space parameters and extracted latent dimensions (PB criterion and orthogonal (varimax normalized) rotation) on the final race result have been established. The sample consisted of 112 top-level swimmers, age 17 – 30, semifinalists and finalists in the 200m individual medley (50m pool) in European and World Championships 2000. – 2002., and 2000. Olympics. The sample of predictive variables consisted of 25 partial indicators of situation-related efficiency, and criterion variables are defined in relation to their efficiency in the race, that is final result (RT) and classification (RANG). The data have been processed using the Statistica for Windows 6.0 program, on the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb. Correlation coefficients of the analyzed parameters (* p<0,05) Correlation coefficients of analyzed parameters in the 200m individual medley (finishing speed, particular race segment speed, turning speed) have proved statistically significant correlation (p< 0,05) with the criteria. Values of correlation coefficients of the backstroke and breaststroke technique are highlighting their significance, which is a conformation of hypothesis, for the end race result (p<0,01). Correlation coefficients of the stroke frequency in backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl technique and both criteria (RT and RANG) are suggesting that swimmers who have the capability of maintaining high stroke frequency achieve eventually a better result. Regression analysis is emphasizing the predictive power of five variables: 125BR (В -0,22); TSBRCR ((В -0,20); TSBABR, 150BR and 100BA (В - 0,19). By means of factor analysis two factors have been extracted. The first one is explained by partial indicators of situation-related efficiency of the second part of the race (125BR, 150BR, 175CR, 200CR and FSL5M) – in which energetic (anaerobic endurance) and tactical component play the crucial role, and so it is defined as energetic-tactical readiness. Second factor is explained by parameters of the first part of the race (S15M, 25FY, 50FY, 75BA, 100BA TSFYBA and TSBABR) in which a rational technique is manifested aiming to prevent to early high-lactate accumulation and is explained as a technical economy factor. Regression analysis of the final result highlighted the importance of the energetic-tactical readiness factor (ВF1=-0,76, p<0,00), with somewhat less importance of the technical economy factor (ВF2=-0,59, p<0,00). The importance of the first factor is manifested in prediction of the final race classification (ВF1=-0,34, p<0,00), but with irrelevant share of the second factor (ВF2=-0,15, p>0,15). Discussion/Conclusion The overall success in this demanding event depends on integral functioning of mutually conditioned factors, which influence sports accomplishments. The hypothesis that swimming speed in the second part of the backstroke segment, and the whole breaststroke segment along with the associated turns are the key race segments, in which swimmers are differentiated regarding their technical readiness, has been confirmed. Energetic-tactical readiness factor is highly correlated with the efficient technique, and based on results an importance of technical, tactical and functional readiness can be emphasized. The importance of development of all the components integrated in the 200m individual medley race, with the emphasis on the backstroke and breaststroke technique and the technical-tactical performance accompanied by the adequate psycho-functional readiness, has been confirmed. All the analyzed parameters should be put into an optimal ratio, which will lead to a maximum synergic effect and utilization of all the potentials in reaching the swimmer’s highest efficiency.
