Sažetak
Geophysical methods play a major role in the exploration of construction material deposits, particularly in deposits with relatively complex geological relationships. It can be generally stated that they have a double role. On one hand, the results of geophysical explorations enable optimum direction of exploratory drilling and result in a reduction of total drilling quantity, i.e. achieve significant economic savings. On the other hand, geophysical methods enable the connection of point borehole data and thus the definition of a three-dimensional geological model of the underground. Electrical tomography, which starts out from the postulates of a two-dimensional, or even a three-dimensional model, enables a more reliable and accurate definition of lithological and structural relationships (Šumanovac and Weisser, 2001), due to which it has become the dominant, basic method in the exploration of construction material deposits, whereas other methods (refraction seismic, electromagnetic methods, magnetometric method, etc.) are used for solving individual, specific tasks and for supplementing electrical tomography. The potentials of electrical tomography are shown on three selected characteristic exploration examples in Croatia: the Zvečaj and Špica quarries, and the Žulinec location. Electrical tomography, together with other geological data, enables not only the isolation of the most favourable zones for quarry expansion, but also the evaluation of potential locations for opening up of new quarries.
