Sažetak
The horse population in Croatia during last two decades has significantly decreased. Warm-blooded breeds have been present with a share of 30% in the total population of about 10 thousand horses. The breed structure of warm-blooded horses is diverse and mostly relfects affinities of breeders and competitors towards certain horse. The development of the equestrian sport is in its initial phase, which can be seen in a small number and insufficient education of personnel involved in the horse industry, small interest of wide audience for equestrian sports, low level of investment into breeding of sport horses and small number of horse events. A complete education is necessary, since most of personnel already involved in the horse industry lack adequate professional education. Previous education of the part of personnel mostly took part in the programmes of university studies at the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Kinesiology, with more emphasis on a theoretical component. The Croatian Equestrian Federation will soon start an adapted professional programme of personnel education which is close to equestrian sports, and in its realisation, all relevant, previously mentioned education potentials will be involved. The equestrian sport in Croatia has been experiencing thorough changes and development and demands the adjustment of the educational base of personnel in the equestrian sport.
