Sažetak
The effect of pyridine-2, 6-dicarboxylic acid (PDCA), which is mostly used as a ligand in chromatography separations of transition metals, after introduction into the ICP-OES was examined. Two pneumatic nebulizers (Meinhard and cross-flow) were evaluated with regard to maximum sigmal-to-background ratio (SBR) and lowest detection limit (cL) criteria. The optimum range of the carrier flow rate, at constant sample uptake rate, was determined for manganese and iron in water and in solutions with differing PDCA content. Maximum SBR values were obtained at 0.9 L/min with the Meinhard nebulizer and at 1-1.1 L/min with the cross-flow nebulizer. The influence of the PDCA solution was evaluated based on normalized SBR values. They were found to be higher in PDCA solutions than in water and became more pronounced with increasing organic content. The detection limits, calculated at each position of the carrier gas flow adjustment, were lower with the Meinhard than the cross-flow nebulizer. The PDCA solutions showed higher background levels in comparison to water, and also higher RSD values, which implied higher detection limits of the analytes in organic solutions. Fluctuations of cL values in the carrier gas flow range were smaller when the cross-flow nebulizer was used.
