Sažetak
The interaction of wood density with moisture content was investigated for the effectiveness of full-cell preservative treatment within tree of European silver fir (Abies alba Mill.). For this purpose, various moisture content (MC) regimes were designed below and above the fibre saturation point (FSP) by recommended kiln drying schedule (schedule K: 70 º ; C dry bulb, 60 º ; C wet bulb). All the samples were treated with tanalith C of CCA (chromium/copper/arsenic) on the base of the main flow directions (O: triplex, L: longitudinal, T: tangential, R: radial). It was observed that wood density tended to increase with increasing moisture content, and porosity (the fractional void volume of wood) showed systematic patterns of decrease with incrasing density. Experimental results also showed that preservative uptake (the percentage of void volume filled with preservative, VVF%) followed an inverse trend with wood density in correspondence of the decreasing trend of MC, and hence, greater VVF% was accompanied by higher porosity. Furthermore, there were significant differences between the flow directions, i.e. the descending order of the VVF% appeared to be as O, L, T, R.
