Sažetak
Earthquake damages at the buildings perimeter showed that even symmetric structures could exhibit torsion vibrations. The Seismic Design Codes include a simple design provision to account for accidental torsion in the response of the buildings with nominally symmetric plan. The accidental eccentricity is related to structure plan dimension, but not to structure frequencies. In this paper, nonlinear coupling of the two lateral and torsional responses of a simple total plane symmetry model during simplified horizontal and vertical earthquake excitation is investigated. The self-excited torsional vibrations influenced by structure parameters due to these excitations are presented. The stability of oscillations has been controlled numerically in the sense of Liapunov. The occurrence of parametric instability due to vertical motion of structure supports, and some of the particular resonance solutions, are discussed and shown on the phase portraits.
