Sažetak
The Harderian glands of both sex fallow deer from National Park Brijuni have been examined on histological composition and activity of dehydrogenases (SDH and LDH), diaphorase (NADH) and alkaline phosphatase. Slices stained with haematoxylin and eosin showed small and dense gland acini build of cubic epithelium cells. Glandular acini are connected by interlobular connective tissue into lobules. Some acini are mostly basophilic, condensed and without visible lumina. Activity of investigated dehydrogenating enzymes is obvious in cytoplasm of gland cells and ranged from very weak to moderate. In majority of gland cells activity of diaphorase (NADH) showed very strong reaction, but rest of the cells showed moderate to strong reaction. Very weak reaction of alkaline phosphatase was obvious in gland cells. We consider that diversity of gland cells histometabolic activity among acini is result of glandular secretory model.
