Sažetak
High transverse contact ratio gears (abbr. HCR gears) are non-standard spur gears with a transverse contact ratio 2<ea<3. In this paper tooth root load capacity of a representative HCR gears set was determined according to DIN 3990 calculations. These results were compared with load capacity of gears with crack in tooth root which was calculated using linear elastic fracture mechanics approach. Results point to the fact that due to significant differences in results, conventional strength ratings must not be applied in estimation of gears fitness not even as an approximation when cracks already exist.
