Sažetak
This paper discusses the moving force of education in the context of sustainable development. Various theories, possibilities and approaches to education of values from the aspect of sustainability (on social and personal level) are being analysed and scrutinised in the light of continuity and complementarity of various value systems. Within the framework of sustainable development a special thought is given to the education and its relationship with anthropocentrism and ecocentrism. A possible and acceptable solution is seen in education founded on the idea of sustainability as an opinion's framework, based on the balance between anthropocentrism and ecocentrism. The advantage is given to the view of equality and connection of natural and human environment – of being and human-nature relationship. Some contradictions between social and personal roles of teachers from the standpoint of education for sustainable development are being questioned. Also, the roles of pedagogy disciplines in teacher education are being scrutinised: from utilitarian education based on norms to « ; open» ; education based on criticism and reflexion. The authors propose a clearer, ideology-free conceptualisation of educational values as well as examination of approaches to education of values in general, especially from the aspect of sustainability and sustainable development, and in the dialogue free of exclusivity and professional arrogance.
