Sažetak
A faunal samples considered in this article were recovered from the Bronze Age archaeological site Vučedol, on lowland terrain near Vukovar. The bone remains were escevated from different layers of the waste pits on the location called “Vineyard Streim”. Three main layers represent three main cultures of this area (the Baden culture 3 500-3 000 BC, the Kostolac culture from 3 250 B. C. and the Vučedol culture 3 000-2 450 BC). We elaborated twenty humeral bone fragments of bovides-twelve of cattle Bos taurus L. and eight of aurochs Bos primigenius Boj. A few bone remains with morphological characteristics of both species represent a mixed forms. All samples were fragmented, consisting of distal parts of humeral bones ; proximal ones were very rare. The bones are presumably the domestic food refuse of the prehistoric settlement. Taken with osteological measurements, humeral fragments of aurochs Bos primigenius Boj. tend to be larger with a slightly shape differences than fragments of cattle Bos taurus L. On X ray photographs the cortical substance is thinner, with finer structucture and lower density in fragments of Bos taurus L. as a result of domestication.
