Sažetak
Objective was to investigate the influence of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) on muscle hyperalgesia in rats induced with repeated intramuscular acidic saline injections. Right gastrocnemius muscle was injected twice with 100 l of pH 4 saline four days apart. Rat in one group received BTX-A ( 5 U/kg) into the plantar surface of the right hind-paws 5 days before injection, while the second group underweant the same treatment on the other side. After the second saline injection bilateral hypersensitivity (p<0.01) was observed. Pre-treatment with BTX-A prevented the development of hyperalgesia on both sides (p<0.01) only when toxin was injected into the ipsilateral hind-paws. When applied contralateraly the toxin inhibited the development of hypersensitivity on contralateral side only. These results demonstrate the effectivness of BTX-A in prevention of hyperalgesia induced by muscle injury.
