Sažetak
Phytoplankton community at three Bays (Sibenik Bay, Kastela Bay and Mali Ston Bay) where analyzed through quantitative and qualitative assessment in a period from 1977 to 2004. All bays are under freshwater influence, which result with increased nitrogen and orthosilicate concentrations (up to 2 orders of magnitude). At ŠibenikBay and Kastela Bay ortophosphate concentrations are enhanced due to untreated sewage discharge more than river influence. Annual averages of chlorophyll a concentrations in the most eutrophicated Šibenik Bay is in range from 0, 91-11, 92 mg m-3 in the surface layer. Annual averages of chlorophyll a concentrations in the Kaštela Bay are in range from 0, 31 to 2, 17 mg m-3. In the semi enclosed eastern part of the larger Kaštela Bay, characterized by the reduced water exchange with the rest of the bay, annual averages of chlorophyll a are much higher (0, 66 - 18, 8 mg m-3). Intensive diatom and dinoflagellate blooms characterize these two bays. Significant negative correlation between abundance of dinoflagellate Prorocentrum micans and salinity were recorded in Šibenik Bay. Diatom and nanoplankton prevailed in the phytoplankton community at the Mali Ston Bay Increased biomass is predictable phytoplankton response on eutrophication. Although qualitative differences in phytoplankton composition between oligotrophic and eutrophic area exists, similar phytoplankton assemblages can be found in a different trophic state.
