Sažetak
This work presents an overview of the developments in furniture construction achieved through time, from its beginnings until today. Although the search for an optimal constructional solution commenced with the first attempts to make furniture, the scientific approach to design emerged only in the 20th century by testing the statics and dynamics of furniture or its parts and joints. An increasing number of different materials used in furniture production widen the variety of tests that are used to test the appropriateness of the choice of the construction method and the material. Also, furniture design creates a demand for new solutions in furniture construction, adjusted to new materials and designs. The development of construction methods includes empirical and scientific elements using various research methods such as destructive and non-destructive methods as well as computer construction methods, which are being used more and more frequently.
