Sažetak
Croatian part of the Mediterranean is related to the eastern Adriatic basin with shoreline in total length of 6116 km. There are 1151 islands, islets and reefs. The 30 largest Croatian islands acquire even 92.2% of the total island area, and the largest have the areas of more than 400 km2 and altitude up to 778 m. All vegetation units belonging to the Mediterranean type of climate in Croatia show the area of 17250 km2 (~30% of total national territory). The total predicted number of species and subspecies growing in the area with eu-Mediterranean type of climate along the Croatian coast is ~1530 taxa and with contiguous and spatially close mountain chains is ~3000 taxa (~54% of total national flora). The 234 taxa of Croatian vascular flora are assesed to be confront with the risk of extinction. Additional 186 taxa are considered nearly threatened and 340 as data deficient. From the previous assesment, 15 years ago, dramatic increment of threatened taxa appear. The most frequent used criteria is decline in the number of mature individuals, followed by the decrease in extent of occurrence or the area of occupancy. Dominant negative factors are detected - as much as 62% of all causes of threats relate to the loss of habitats primarily due to human impacts, and the additional 24% present indirect consequences of various causes. Threatened taxa dominate in scrub and grassland habitats, coastal send habitats, followed by bogs and marshes and agricultural land. Conservation measures in place is based dominately on policy. Sixty-two percent of all needed conservation measures refer to research actions.
