Sažetak
Industrial mineral wastes, produced during various thermal treatments (fly ash, silica fume, slags, etc.), improve the engineering properties and performance of concrete when they are used as mineral admixtures or as a partional cement replacements.Economical (lower cement requirement) and enviromental considerations have also played a great role in the rapid increase in usage of these mineral admixtures. For comparing the relative performance of fly ash (FA) as regards Portland cement, the practical concept of an efficiency may be applied. The effeciency factor or k-value is defined as the part of the fly ash in an FA-concrete that can be considered as equivalent to Portland cement having the same properties as the concrete without FA (control concrete). A practical approach to the contribution of fly ash obtained from Croatian Thermal Power Station Plomin 2 on the strength of Portland cement systems using the concept of the efficiency factor was presented and discussed. The k-values calculated are valid for a certain amount of fly ash replacement (5-30 wt.%) in mortar/concrete and they are different depending on the property that it concerns, i.e. on the compressive strength at various ages.
