Sažetak
The Croatian movement started in 1994. with organisation of the First Symposium on Hospice and Palliative Care and foundation of the Croatian Society for Hospice and Palliative Care, as part of Croatian Medical Association. From the beggining of the movement is oriented to involve existent medical structures. As independent civil society, the Croatian association of Hospice Friends, for logistical purposes was founded in 1999. October 2002. Regional Hospice Center in Zagreb ( capital of Croatia ) was opened, owned by CAHF and supported by Ministry of Health was held. In summer 2003. the new croatian law on the health protection was issued with many articles involving palliative care. So, palliative care has become an essential part of primary health care system. As the level of primary health care the institution for palliative care with three units ( the interdisciplinary team for home care visits with special education in the care of the dying , department of pain and palliative care and hospice day center ) is anticipated. The education in palliative care is slowly getting academic status. The postgraduate malignant pain course was held already foutrh time in Zagreb.The postgraduate course in palliative care for primary care physicians is held in 2004. Special accent is given on ethics atitude to the terminally ill patients.
