Sažetak
The main difference between Croatian and Australian tuna farming is its length, which stands as a major factor able to affect or shape the health status of both tuna species. The most pathogenic parasitic (Uronema nigricans) or viral diseases (Iridovirus) that were contracted in long tuna farming experience in Australia and Japan, were never reported in Croatia or other Mediterranean facilities (Munday et al, 2003 ; Deveney et al, 2005), mainly because of geographical limitation of the pathogen or even host susceptibility. Parasitofauna of blufin tuna is diverse and rich in composition, but generally shows no tendency for intense proliferation and thus does not represent a real health threath. However, Croatian facilities seasonally suffer from strong breakouts of secondary bacterial infections that are practically impossible to stop but easily overpass with routine optimal husbandry.
