Sažetak
Marine dissolved organic matter (MDOM), comprising a complex mixture of different hydrophobic and hydrophilic truly dissolved and colloidal organic compounds, is the largest reservoir of carbon that has a potential to vary significantly over the time and affect the global environment on time-scales relevant to human concerns. MDOM is still poorly characterized, and relatively little is known about its chemical composition and reactivity. A large fraction of MDOM is surface active and accumulate at seawater boundaries with atmosphere, with dispersed and particulate material, and with sediment. Surface active substances influence the structure and physico-chemical properties of natural interfaces and mediate the processes of mass and energy transfer between different phases. Here the tools used to separate MDOM in the Adriatic Sea samples include selective adsorption on the XAD-8 resin and cross flow filtration (CFF). For determination and characterization of different surface active MDOM classees the electrochemical
