Sažetak
Aim of this paper was to compare English idioms of biblical origin with their counterparts in Croatian, based on their semantic equivalence. By means of contrastive analysis I have tried to establish to what extent the counterparts overlap lexically and structurally and what the degrees of the overlap are, examining the role of metaphor and metonymy in the construal of such expressions in both languages.
