Sažetak
Concentrations of PM10 particle fraction, lead and Benzo-a-pyrene (BaP) contained in PM10, as well as of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) were measured from 23 October 2002 to 5 November 2002 at seven Zagreb crossroads and compared to daily averaged levels regularly monitored at local stations. Samples were collected from six to 13 hrs and from 14 to 21 hrs. Portable air samplers (Air Metrics, USA) were placed at the height of 1.70 meter above the ground level. PM10 samples were collected on a Whatman quartz filters with the diameter of 47 mm, while gases were collected in Tedlar bags. This study was performed as a part of the SILAQ project (Sofia Initiative for Local Air Quality, initiated in 1995). The results show a small, but noticeable concentrations increase in regard to daily concentrations measured at local network stations. Concentrations of all investigated pollutants were noticeable higher in the afternoon than in the morning, which points to pollutants accumulation during daytime and their dilution over night. In addition, the concentrations of all pollutants were higher on weekdays, because of much higher traffic density. Significant higher concentrations of nitrogen oxides on crossroads in regard to daily average values obtained at the local network stations point to a substantial influence of traffic on local air pollution levels. At the same time traffic density was determined on these crossroads in the same time, and it will be correlated to air pollution data in future investigations. We hope that this pilot investigation will be the basis for future investigations of traffic influences on local and global air pollutions in Zagreb.
