Sažetak
On the assumption that change of the surroundings may have different effects on the pig reproduction efficiency, ejaculate characteristics of breeding boars were investigated before and after accommodation change. The study included six boars of different breeds (German Landrace, Swedish Landrace, and Pietrain) of about the same age. Production indicators were recorded during the autumn-winter period before, and spring-summer period after the accommodation change. All breeding boars had identical accommodation, feeding, care and sexual utilization before and after accommodation change. Before removal, the boars were kept in single pens sized 2.8x3.0 m with enclosure of the same size, and were placed in pens sized 3.0x3.6 m with enclosure of 3.0x27 m upon removal. Study results showed the number of units per ejaculate to range from 15 to 20 units before removal, and from 16 to 23 units upon removal to the new accommodation, depending on the breed. This production increase could have been attributed to the beneficial effect of bigger space on animal welfare, although production results should also be viewed through the prism of seasons.
