Sažetak
Understanding the structure, stability, and dynamics of vesicles is important in elucidating biological self-assembly and in devising strategies for practical use of stable vesicles. Recently has been found that the vesicular structures form spontaneously and is long-lived in certain surfactant systems (surfactants that are strongly hydrophilic and have large hydrophobic groups, like double chained or catanionic surfactants). We have found that mixtures of oppositely charged surfactants and biopolymers form small, giant and oligovesicular vesicles with ease. Investigation of the phase behavior in dodecylammonium chloride (DDACl)/differently charged carrageenan (CAR) mixtures revealed the formation of single and coexisting phases. Several phase regions were identified as a function of concentration and molar ratio of components: clear region containing soluble DDACl/CAR complexes (PSC), vesicles and/or micelles and vesicles, turbid region containing precipitate and vesicles, and gel region.
