Sažetak
Interruption in the development of marine coal-fired boilers design has been going on for a more of four decades. During that period of time great changes in marine propulsion plant occurred. Manufacturer of marine engines developed constructions of very efficient heavy fuel slow speed two-stroke diesel engines with the efficiency of about 52% and with the maximal continuos rating up to 70 MW. Today we can talk about the absolute domination of diesel-engines in the field of cargo ship propulsion. But the knowledge about the crude oil and coal world resources, the growing ecological constraints on ship exploitation ,as well as the experience of a strong influence of political factors on the price of crude oil, cause the need for researching possibilities of repeated use of coal in marine propulsion plant.
Based on the research of possible modern design solutions of steam-turbine propulsion plants with coal-fired boilers, and on the research of different solutions for heating and kinds of coal combustion, it might be concluded that the marine coal-fired boiler with fluidized bed is one of possible solutions for marine propulsion plant in the future.
The basic purpose of this paper is to create a scientific base for coal application in marine propulsion plants in future. In this the basic themes of investigation in future are also described.
