Sažetak
The paper investigates the possibility of ammonia sorption from air by using natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) from sedimentary ore from the area of Donje Jesenje, Krapina, Croatia. Natural zeolite contains mostly calcium and the least sodium ions as exchangeable cations. The studied natural zeolite was also activated with NaCl, KCl and MgCL2 salts solutions, treatment with HCl acid and NaOH base as well as thermally activated at different temperatures, so the properties of this modified zeolite samples as ammonia sorbents were investigated as well. Ammonia sorption was better on natural and Mg-form zeolite, whereas lower sorption capacity was recorded for Na and K forms of zeolite. Results have shown that the acid-modified zeolite sample exhibited much better ammonia sorption capacity compared to natural zeolite. It was found that an increase of temperature at which zeolite is treated considerably reduces ammonia sorption on zeolite similarly to zeolite treatment in NaOH solution.
