Sažetak
Ips sexdentatus develops in Europe on Pinus sylvestris and on Pinus nigra. This species is known to attack logs and standing trees, suffering from draught or after forest fire. In total, 291 Ips sexdentatus were dissected from seven different localitions in Austria in 2003 and 2004 (151 males and 140 females). Investigations were conducted with regard to the occurrence of pathogens. Beetles were dissected on microscopical slides in a drop of water and were inspected in normal light microscope. Gregarina typographi was found in the mid-gut lumen of beetles from all seven locations (total n = 84), in male (n = 40) and in female beetles (n = 44). Infection rates varied in the beetles from the different locations within a wide range, 16.7% to 45.5%, depending on location of origin. Metschnikowia typographi was found for the first time in the cells of the mid-gut epithelium and free in the haemolymph of adult I. sexdentatus. It was observed in beetles from six localities (total n = 36), in males (n = 23) and in females (n = 13). Infection rates were lower than with G. typographi they varied in the beetles from the different locations from 0.9% to 51.4%. Mixed infection, M. typographi together with G. typographi, was found in eight beetles. Furthermore, nematodes were found free in the haemolymph and in the mid-gut and/or in the hind-gut.
