Sažetak
The 1950s and 1960s were the decades of social, economic and cultural transformation in Croatia, then part of the socialist Yugoslavia. The processes of industrialization and urbanization continued at a more rapid pace and changed the habits of both old and new urban populations. The set of changes enabled the creation of practices of the mass consumer society. The development of mass tourism, especially on the Adriatic, was perceived as a part of the socialist social revolution, as one of the key indicators of the living standard, as a field of both social and commercial interests, and as a help to the nation building. The modernization thus made cities grow, but it also made the city-dwellers to get away on weekends, public holidays and holidays with pay. Many efforts were put into the creation of the need for travelling, and new habits soon acquired the meaning of a status symbol.
