Fitts tapping task
Sažetak
In 1954 Paul Fitts invented the experimental task which required the subject to answer questions or solve mathematical problems while propelling a stylus back and forth between two areas laid out in front of the subject, tapping one of the areas on each turn. The experi-ment had shown that the subject’ s tapping rate decreased with the complexity of the problem given to the subject. An apparatus including a pad and a stylus was constructed based on the Fitts’ original setup. The pad is divided into five areas, where two areas represent the left and right tapping areas, and the remaining three are used to signal a miss. A tap on the desired area is sensed by electrical contact between the stylus and the pad. For precise timing and reliable detection of hit or miss, we used a microcontroller to monitor the test and gather data.
