Sažetak
"Kaštel" predecessor of PLIVA was among the first manufacturers of sulfonamides in the world. In this article the whole history of development and production of sulfonamides within PLIVA was described. In addition to sulfonamides with antibacterial activity PLIVA has also been manufacturing sulfonamide compounds with diuretic, antidiabetic and disinfectant effect. PLIVA has synthesized a large number of new compounds and investigated their biological activity. PLIVA has also developed its own procedure for the synthesis of the sulfonamide synergists, dihydropholate reductase inhibitors, such as trimethoprim, ormethoprim and diaveridine.
