Sažetak
It is in ganerally accepted that somatostatin has an important role in gastrointestinal tract. We investigated the influence of somatostatin on experimental gastric lesions in mice, since most result suggesting its protective effect were previously obtained in stressed rats. Lesions were induced as described before (Rasanen, Acta Physiolo. Scand., 58, 201, 1963). Somatostatin (0.01, 0.1, 1.0 mg/kg b.w.) was applied i.p. immediatly before stress procedure. Control mice recieved an equivolume of saline (4.0 ml/kg b.w.) i.p.. After scarificing, the gastric lesion were assessed as before (Sikirić et al., EJP 158, 61, 1988). In comparison to the control values, somatostatin does protect when is given 1.0, 0.1 mg/kg b.w.. In contrast, it demonstrated an opposite ulcerogenic effects when is given in the smallest dose (0.01 mg/kg b.w.). Conclusion: These results suggest that somatostatin has a dose-dependent, a probably not species related protective effect in stress. However, its aggravating effect needs further investigation.
